Table basse moderniste en orme massif, piètement cylindrique pin, années 70

Maison Lecan presents this solid elm coffee table from the 1970s, a piece of direct and assured character in the manner of Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Chapo — that French rural modernism which made raw material and honest form its only arguments.
The rectangular top with its generously rounded corners is one of the most successful details of the piece. Far from incidental, this treatment of the edges softens the silhouette while reinforcing the impression of mass and solidity — a tension between the power of the volume and the gentleness of the curve that is characteristic of the best design of this period. The solid elm, with its tight dark grain and chocolate and tobacco tones, reveals a dense, warm material of great depth. The surface has been carefully worked in the Maison Lecan workshop, enhancing the wood without altering it.
The four solid pine cylindrical legs, robust and well-proportioned, anchor the table to the ground with directness. The dialogue between the density of the elm and the lighter texture of the pine creates a subtle material variation that quietly enriches the whole without overcomplicating it.
At 200 cm in length, a low height of 40 cm and a weight of approximately 50 kg, this table asserts itself naturally in a generous living room, a loft, or any interior that appreciates objects with genuine weight — in every sense of the word.
