Grand plat en racine de thuya, Maroc, années 80, Ø70 cm

Maison Lecan présente ce grand plat marocain des années 80, creusé dans une seule pièce de racine de thuya. 70 cm de diamètre, 23 cm de haut, environ 15 kg : c'est un format qu'on croise rarement.

Son point fort, c'est le bois. La racine de thuya donne ce veinage moucheté, ces petits nœuds sombres et cette teinte ambrée qui change avec la lumière. La patine est belle, le bois a pris de la profondeur avec le temps.

Il lui faut de l'espace pour exister : au centre d'une grande table, sur un îlot de cuisine ou une large console. Vide, il se suffit à lui-même. Rempli de fruits, il fait aussi très bien le travail.

Maison Lecan presents this large Moroccan bowl from the 1980s, carved from a single piece of thuya burl. 70 cm across, 23 cm high and around 15 kg: a size you rarely come across.

The wood is the real draw. Thuya burl gives this speckled grain, the small dark knots and an amber tone that shifts with the light. The patina is lovely, and the wood has gained depth over time.

It needs space to work: in the middle of a large dining table, on a kitchen island or a wide console. Empty, it stands on its own. Filled with fruit, it does the job just as well.
